A website for a 38-year career that lives in two worlds at once — chef and entertainer — built as one cinematic, single-page story instead of two competing profiles.
Don Sherman is a Sri Lankan chef, TV personality, and performer known around the world as "The Singing Chef." Over a 38-plus year career he's worked as a chef, restaurant owner, and television host, hosted and appeared on national television for over two decades, and has been a brand ambassador for international names including Philips, Kenwood, and Panasonic. Alongside the kitchen, he writes and performs his own music and hosts and MCs live events in English, Sinhala, and Hindi.
LYGEN designed and built his personal website end-to-end — the single place online that now represents both sides of his career, for an audience that spans fans, event organisers, and brand partners.
Don's story spans television, live performance, music, and hospitality — several different worlds that had never lived in one coherent place online. Before this site, that story was scattered: clips on social media, press mentions, old show appearances, nothing pulling it together.
The brief was a site that could hold all of it without feeling like a resume — cinematic enough for a TV personality, structured enough to still get event, brand, and media enquiries booked through it.
Rather than splitting "chef" and "entertainer" into two separate pages, we treated them as one character told in one continuous scroll — a numbered single-page journey a visitor moves through in order, instead of a traditional menu-and-subpages structure.
The visual language leans cinematic on purpose: full-bleed photography, a dark backdrop that lets his own imagery carry the page, and a restrained typographic system — a bold display face for structure, with a lighter italic accent reserved for moments that needed a touch of showmanship, like the name of the site itself.
A full-bleed opening built around his own photography and presence — chef's coat, medals, stage energy — setting the tone in the first few seconds.
A single-page journey structured so visitors can explore either side of his career — food or performance — without the site feeling split in two.
A numbered section index that runs the length of the page, so a long single-page site never feels like it's lost the visitor.
A dedicated space for his television presence and brand ambassador work, built to read as credibility, not a list of logos.
His original music sits alongside the culinary work instead of being buried — its own section, not a footnote.
A clear route for event, brand, and media enquiries to reach him directly, instead of getting lost across scattered social profiles.
A site this photography- and video-led can get heavy fast, so it was built mobile-first from the start — the same cinematic feel has to hold up on a phone on a slow connection, not just on a desktop demo. Media is loaded deliberately rather than all at once, so the page stays quick even with a career's worth of visuals behind it.
Don now has one site that ties his television career, music, and culinary work together in a single, cohesive presence — built to represent him properly whether a visitor finds him through a cooking show, a brand partnership, or an event booking enquiry.
